Implemented CMS

Among the CMS (site management system) we use SimplaCMS and OpenCart. They have proved to be reliable, convenient and easy to manage. SimplaCMS is commercial CMS rather than OpenCart and thanks to modules and improvements for both systems – you can make a really powerful solution on each of them.

Among the key features of SimplaCMS: synchronization with 1C is already built into the system, a very simple administrator panel, a lot of payment and delivery modules. OpenCart is a more functional system. It has a bonus system, various modules (image slider, banner management, affiliate program, delivery region settings, multilanguage and many other useful add-ons).

Feel free to view a live-demo both of them SimplaCMS и OpenCart.

Underline element using CSS

We’ve wanted to share with our experience in CSS design long time ago and today we’ve decided to publish the first post about some great feature such as underline elemnt with CSS. Most of us have seen such effect as appearing line under the element. But the line appears with animation from the side or from the center and makes all the elemnt underlined.

We’d like to say that it is not border value but the other one which allows you not to use any scripts or flash. So. let’s start our lesson.

Underline styles

It could be a lot of types of underlines styles. It depends to your fantasy. We are going to show you three of them: appearing line from the left side, from the center and from the right side of the element.

Example 1. Right side line

HTML

First of all, let’s create some element. For example, a tag which is link.

<a href="#">name of the link</a>

CSS

Usually underlined element is made by using a text-decoration value but there is no animation at all. We will skip such elemnt and will use pseudoelement :before. It will help us to add the animation to the element.

a {
    display: inline-block;
    position: relative;
    text-decoration: none;
}

We have added block wrapping to this elemnt which will not allow our line go outside the element borders and will allow us to place the link anywhere inside the parent block. Let’s continue with the pseudoelement :before.

a:before {
    display: block;
    position: absolute;
    content: "";
    height: 2px;
    width: 0;
    background: #ec4444;
    transition: width 0.3s ease-in-out;
    left: 0;
    bottom: 0;
}

We have added absolute positioning to pseudoelemnt to make the line inside the tag and to disable the line to go outside it’s borders. Line height will be 2px, width is 0, color is red and the transition value is responsible for animation. And now we have to add the hover effect.

a:hover:before {
    width: 40%;
}

Thereby we’ve added the width value with 40% from the whole width of the current element. Now I will tell you about the examples where we will use the other one pseudoelemnt.

Example 2. Central line

HTML

We will use the same tag.

<a href="#">name of the link</a>

CSS

a {
    display: inline-block;
    position: relative;
    text-decoration: none;
}
a:before {
    display: block;
    position: absolute;
    content: "";
    height: 2px;
    width: 0;
    background: #ec4444;
    transition: width 0.3s ease-in-out, left 0.3s ease-in-out;
    left: 50%;
    bottom: 0;
}
a:after {
    display: block;
    position: absolute;
    content: "";
    height: 2px;
    width: 0;
    background-color: #ec4444;
    transition: width 0.3s ease-in-out;
    left: 50%;
    bottom: 0;
}

We have added one more pseudoelemt :after, made positioning of 50% from the left and added one more animation to make smooth animation. Such value places our lines in the middle of the element.

a:hover:before {
    width: 50%;
    left: 0;
}
a:hover:after {
    width: 50%;
}

Our lines should appear from the middle while your cursor is placed on the tag. That’s why we’ve changed left positioning to 0 for our pseudoelement :before which makes our line appearing to the left side.

Example 3. Right side line

HTML

<a href="#">name of the link</a>

CSS

a {
    display: inline-block;
    position: relative;
    text-decoration: none;
}
a:after {
    display: block;
    position: absolute;
    content: "";
    height: 2px;
    width: 0;
    background: #ec4444;
    transition: width 0.3s ease-in-out;
    right: 0;
    bottom: 0;
}
a:hover:after {
    width: 40%;
}

So now we have a line appearing from the right side of the element.

Website development: how to start

We are sure that you’ve thought about how to create a website but didn’t know how to start. We’d like to tell you what do you need to do, what don’t need to do according to our experience. So let’s begin.

First of all think about do you realy need a website. Who will be your clients? Is there demand for your product or services? If you have some doubts about it than think about it later otherwise you’ll spend your money for nothing.

The idea and concept of the site

As soon as you have decided to run the site you’ll need a clear vision of what site it will be: personal blog, corporate website, landing page or online store. Than think about the idea and concept of the site.

Just write your main diffirences from the competitors. What are your strong and weak sides? Or may be you want to improve some services which are already available on the market.

Website title

One of the main point is the name of the site. It should be short, easy to remember and unique. Just think creative about it.

Website structure

Excellent. You’ve chosen the site name, had the idea and concept. Now it is time to work on the website structure. I think that such pages must be on the site: About page, News (or Blog), Contact information. Of course don’t forget about your services and products.

You also should think well about the structure. Don’t make a lot of links from one page to another. More over use correct URLs because it is necessary for site promotion. Make sure that page address is look like site.com/page-name.html instead of site.com/page_1.html.

Than you should decide what CMS to use. There are a lot of them through out the Internet. Of course some of them are free and some of them commercial. Use demo before you make decision. For example, we used to use ImageCMS Corporate for my client’s projects. But now we are using famous WordPress as our main CMS.

Choosing domain name

Domain is your website address. Here you must think about the name, because registration is available for a minimum of 1 year. By the way if you’ll have a desire to change the name you’ll need to do site promotion from the very begining.

Choose as short name as possible and easy to remeber. Such names had been already registered but you can try other domain zone instead of .RU/.COM/.NET etc.

The price for a domain also differs. Each registrator has own prices for each domain zone. You can find out them at the webhosting providers such. Among russian registrants you can use Reg.ru. Outside Russia we recommend Dreamhost.

Website design

Here is the most interesting part. Some clients ask us to use templates for their sites. Of course, it’s up to client whether choose template or design development. We strongly recommend you to order a webdesign.

For example, you’ve bouhgt a template. Installed on your website or asked someone to help you with that. It doesn’t matter. Other user also bought the same template and offered the same services as you or used it not legal. So the user will remember design or colors (it’s easier) and in two weeks will think about your company. He will try to find you. Finaly he found the website (with the same template) and would think that this is your company. He will read about your services and will find out that services (which current site offers) are not good enough. Anyway the client will think such about your company. Yes, it is one in a million but such situations could be.

Individual design wins anyway. All the site style will be made by your vision and ideas, will use your colors and will be well combined with your logo. Won’t be overloaded with unnecessary blocks. And will be easy to use and edit.

If you do not want to spend much money at start we can offer you “all inclusive” website for only $150.

Website content

There are plenty of articles through ou the Internet. The easiest way is to copy article from the one site and paste it at yours. But you’ll lost all your position in search engine.

Other method is to write all the text by yourself. Yes. It’ll take some time, but don’t idle. Such texts are more interesting to read.

The third method is to hire a copywriter. They will write you any text according to your requirements and desires. Average cost is about $30 per one text. But in Russia it depends on how many symbols will there be. For example, 1000 symbols could cost $7, $10 or $20. It depends on how good copywriter is.

Conclusion

It’s no so difficult to run your first website but it also costs some money. And how much will it cost depends only on how much you are ready to invest to yourself.

About responsive design

Everyday amount of users which use mobile devices are growing. If we will look everywhere we go we could see that every cafe or mall has Wi-Fi where a lot people use mobile phone or tablet to surf the Internet. That’s why most of developers uses responsive through out their work.

What is the responsive design?

Responsive design is design that perfectly fits ane device from PC to mobile phone. Such sites a placed on one domain and do need to have ane mobile versions of the site. The content of the site is perfectly changes upon device resolution.

Of course at the very begining I thought taht I should develop design for each of the devices but I was wrong. Such design is developing for each screen resolution and if to talk clearly for each browser resolution. Some functionality could be reduced on mobile devices due to technichal specs of device. But don’t be sad you can also use it on your PC or laptop at home or office.

Advantages of the responsive design

  • One design for all devices.
  • Content is fully readable.
  • One domain.
  • More comfortable to read and look at the images.
  • Size of images changes automatically.
  • Modern website development.
  • Reaching a large audience.

What is the price of website development

Everyone was asking a question about the price of website development. If we will ask Google or Yandex we will see huge amount of offers where price range will be absolutely different, for example, from 1 000 ₽ to infinite cost. Why is it so? Why does the price at studio differ from the freelancer’s price?

So someone imagine that website consist of one page where all information is placed about company or person with feedback form. It is fiction. Such sites doesn’t exist besides Landing Pages or Promo websites. Base website consists of several pages including services, blog or news, contact information, about page etc. There are a lot of sections could be.

The range of prices is caused by everyone who wants to be on top even if someone will do worse for himself by dumping prices. Cost of services in web studios, for example, caused by some factors:

  • Designer;
  • Project Manager;
  • Developer;
  • Bills;
  • Comission.

These are the most important items of expenditure which every studio has and affects the cost of service. Of course, some studios offer a website for as little as 1 000 ₽ or 1 500 ₽ but quality is won’t be so good. Such prices caused such factors: using templates is much cheaper, CMS without any functionality or even they doesn’t use it at all. Some of sites are not SEO friendly and it is difficult to promote them.

Website development price among freelancers can have wide range too but it more often lower rather than in studio because freelancer doesn’t have to pay salaries, rent etc. Freelancer expensens are minimal that affects final cost for his services.

Also ratings, popularity, reviews affects price. If rating higher than cost is higher too because client must pay for the brand and popularity.

Thanks for attention and hope that you’ll like an article.
